[edit] Overview
The Geeky Guide to Nearly Everything is the public blog started by Rocky Sunico and counts as his third blog thus far. The blog was initially hosted on the Blogger platform and is written predominantly in English given its intent to target a more international audience.
The blog was officially created on September 1, 2006 when it became possible to log into Blogger using one's Google Account. By July 19, 2008, the Geeky Guide officially moved away from the Blogspot domain to its own - http://www.geeky-guide.com. As of August 2008, the blog has over 1000 entries and has formed partnerships and collaboration agreements with other sites and bloggers.

[edit] Details
[edit] Title
The title came to be while Rocky was at the office playing around with Blogger beta and trying to come up with a tentative name for a site. This was just supposed to be a test of the tools and functions for the new Blogger service and not necessarily a serious effort at creating a new blog. During this time, his officemates all took shots at naming suggestions until the term "Geeky Guide" was thrown out. The extra "Y" at the end helped make things more distinct since the web was already full of various "Geek's Guides" and such.
[edit] Topics
Initially, the Geeky Guide was little more than a Google-watcher and a general technology blog centered around search techniques. As more time and effort was put into the site, the site's coverage began to expand to include political issues (local and international), GLBT-related issues and concerns, entertainment news, reviews for books, movies, TV shows and theater performances and many others.
[edit] Contributors
In an effort to expand the coverage of the blog and to truly cover "Nearly Everything" Rocky started inviting other bloggers to contribute to the site given Blogger's option to add multiple authors. As of October 2007, the Geeky Guide had 5 contributors as part of the group with varying levels of participation. For most of 2008, the Geeky Guide has returned to being an individual blog, although the possibility of entertaining contribution offers remains.
- Haochi Chen - a brilliant Chinese-American high school student from Ohio who is behind Googlified, a very popular Google-watching blog. While he has not contributed many entries to date, he was responsible for a lot of the template tweaks and enhancements during the early period of the site. Joined the Geeky Guide in December 2006 but is not active at this time.
- Arbet Bernardo - owner of AWBHoldings.com. Arbet was primarily a friend of Rocky's from LiveJournal. He currently provides technology news every Tuesday and Thursday. Joined the Geeky Guide in January 2007 but is not active at this time.
- Richie - another friend from LiveJournal and Rocky's fellow member from the New Worlds Alliance. Has committed to provide music and mecha-related entries but has yet to actually post to the site to date. Joined the Geeky Guide in July 2007 but is not active at this time.
- Inklingfair - still another LiveJournal friend and colleague from the New Worlds Alliance. Contributes entries about collecting and other hobby activities. Joined the Geeky Guide in July 2007 but is not active at this time.
- Q the Conqueror - a friend Rocky met through his work with Pinoy Gay Blogs, Q contributes information about comic books along with information on how to download them. Joined the Geeky Guide in August 2007 but is not active at this time.
[edit] Collaborations
Over time, the Geeky Guide has gotten the attention of other site owners and content providers and loose arrangements and partnerships have formed over time.
The first site to contact the Geeky Guide was the Viral Video Chart, and they initially sent over links to access beta versions of their new site design. Later on, the Guide was allowed to test out their news wire service during the beta testing period. The Geeky Guide continues to suppose the Viral Video Chart by using it as a basis to track and discuss online video content.
The most active partnership to date remains to be the Geeky Guide's partnership with Pinoy Gay Blogs, created by Migs of Manila Gay Guy. Ironically the Geeky Guide became noticed because of an entry against the sign-up policy of Pinoy Gay Blogs. From there, Migs contact Rocky and offered a cross-posting opportunity in the form of providing blog feature reviews for the site. Eventually Rocky accepted and the Geeky Guidewas the primary blog review for Pinoy Gay Blogs until the first quarter of 2008. At this time, this relationship still exists however he has not been actively posting reviews pending other discussions.
The Geeky Guide is also involved in United SEA, a blog focused on news from ASEAN countries as started by Khalel of hush and listen. Thus far, this collaboration only involves cross-posting Geeky Guide posts that fit the United SEA criteria.
[edit] Tri-Blog Entries
Given that Rocky now manages a total of three blogs, he sometimes posts special entries he calls Tri-Blog Entries, which are special posts that appear on all three of his blogs - The Geeky Guide to Nearly Everything, Beyond Dinobot Island and Moonbase 8. These are normally reserved for special occasions of personal significance like his birthday or his anniversary.
Tri-Blog entries have also been used to highlight issues or concerns that are highly significant and important to Rocky and of course to promote traffic between these three sites.
