[edit] Overview
Moonbase 8 is Rocky Sunico's second site and in some ways is considered to be the precursor to The Geeky Guide to Nearly Everything. Given this is actually a Multiply page and not solely a blog site, it may be argued that this is not a true blog in the strictest sense. However, the collection of content is similar to what a blog would normally cover and was essential for Rocky to develop other aspects of his blogging activities prior to creating the Geeky Guide.
Moonbase 8 was created on May 7, 2006 and now hosts a variety of content including blog entries, photos, videos, reviews and other items. Currently, Moonbase 8 works more "behind-the-scenes" for his front line blogs, providing a venue for hosting multimedia content used in the other blogs.

[edit] Title and Theme
As somewhat a spin-off of Beyond Dinobot Island, Rocky's LiveJournal blog, Moonbase 8 followed the same Transformers theme. This time the site alludes to there being a fictional eighth moon of the Transformers' home planet of Cybertron.
The number 8's significance for Rocky is that this is the closest he'll get to a "favorite" number given how often it seems to appear in his life.
The rest of the site tries to remain faithful to the Transformers theme and thus all section headers are titled in line with the Transformers universe.
Section Headers:
- Welcome Message - at the top of the site Moonbase 8 greets visitors with the line "Identification Required," which implies this to be a secured facility such as Transformer base or facility. The opening page is also known as the Docking Bay.
- Blog - the blog section is labeled as the Station Log keeping in theme with the site being a Transformer facility and the blog acts as a record of the events that occur at the station.
- Photos - this section is labeled as the Teletran-1 Records, in reference to the original Teletraan I, which was the Autobot's computer aboard the original Ark.
- Reviews - this section is renamed as Intelligence Reports, again keeping in theme with this being a pseudo-military installation.
- Videos - this section is labeled as Datastream Intercepts in reference to the video files it hosts in an effort to make the section sound more futuristic.
- Calendar - this section is simply named as the Timeline in order to keep within the pseudo-military aims of the page.
- Links - this potion is called the Allied Outposts since they refer to external links which remain related to the site as a whole.
- Music - although no music files have been uploaded thus far, the section has already been labeled as Tightbeam Transmissions in reference to the audio files being somehow sent via secure laser beam signal.
[edit] Content
One of the key features of any Multiply site is its ability to host a wide variety of content. Initially Rocky used Moonbase 8 just as a photo-hosting site and as a mirror of Beyond Dinobot Island as a sort of "back-up site" for his LiveJournal entries. In time he explored the other options available to Multiply users.
At present, Moonbase 8 hosts the following:
- Blog Entries - the blog section of Moonbase 8 is an exact mirror of all entries on Beyond Dinobot Island. As new entries are created in LiveJournal, they are faithfully cross-posted to Multiply.
- Reviews - previously part of the blog entries themselves, Rocky eventually spun them off as independent content upon signing up for Multiply. This helped keep his LiveJournal entries more focused on personal news. Once The Geeky Guide to Nearly Everything was created, all reviews move there and are merely cross-posted to Multiply at present.
- Photos - the site hosts all of Rocky's personal photos which are often linked to or referred to in his various blog entries on his other pages.
- Videos - Moonbase 8 was Rocky's first experiment with exploring video content on a larger scale for sharing purposes. Once The Geeky Guide to Nearly Everything was established, video features were moved there and Rocky continues to cross-post videos to Moonbase 8. Unlike other sections, the video page for Moonbase 8 does host content sometimes not found on any of Rocky's other blogs.
- Events - Rocky uses the Calendar section to announce major events or holidays of interest that are often discussed in his various blog entries as well.
[edit] Tri-Blog Entries
Given that Rocky now manages a total of three blogs, he sometimes posts special entries he calls Tri-Blog Entries, which are special posts that appear on all three of his blogs - Moonbase 8 Beyond Dinobot Island and The Geeky Guide to Nearly Everything. These are normally reserved for special occasions of personal significance like his birthday or his anniversary.
Tri-Blog entries have also been used to highlight issues or concerns that are highly significant and important to Rocky and of course to promote traffic between these three sites.
