Ivan Henares

Ivan Anthony Henares (July 6, 1979 - ) is a travel writer and heritage advocate. A member of the Board of Trustees of the Heritage Conservation Society, he is a feisty advocate for the preservation of Philippine architectural heritage. He also serves as a trustee of the San Fernando, Pampanga Heritage Foundation and director of the Ateneo Alumni Association.

He completed his elementary and high school studies at the Ateneo de Manila University in 1993 and 1997 respectively. In 2002, he received his economics degree from the University of the Philippines, Diliman. He completed his MBA degree in UP Diliman in 2006 and is currently taking up post-graduate studies urban and regional planning, also in UP Diliman.

Henares was City Tourism Officer of the City of San Fernando, Pampanga from 2002 to 2004. The heritage conservation and cultural revival program he spearheaded in the city was among the Top Ten Best Practices of the League of Cities of the Philippines and a Trailblazing Project of the Gawad Galing Pook in 2004. At the age of 24, he chaired the Giant Lantern Festival in 2003. He also organized the first Pyestang Tugak: San Fernando Frog Festival also in 2003 which is becoming a much-awaited festival of the city.

He was named Most Outstanding Kapampangan for Youth Leadership in 2001. In 2005, he received the United Nations Association of the Philippines Outstanding Youth Leader Award and SIP National Award for Arts & Culture. The next year, the City of San Fernando named him The Outstanding Fernandino for Preservation of Heritage and Promotion of the Arts. His blog, Ivan About Town, was named Best Travel Blog at the 2007 Philippine Blog Awards.
