[edit] Overview

Beyond Dinobot Island is the personal blog of Rocky Sunico and is officially his first ever blog. The blog is hosted on the LiveJournal platform and written predominantly in English, although Rocky has been known to interject snippets of Filipino, German and Japanese when deemed appropriate.

The blog was officially created on October 27, 2003 and remains to be a Basic Account, which is the free, non ad-supported account level of LiveJournal accounts. To date there are over 1,000 entries and the blog is practically updated daily. Entries are also cross-posted to Moonbase 8, Rocky's Multiply account.

[edit] Details

[edit] Title and Theme

The title Beyond Dinobot Island is in reference to the same Dinobot Island that was a temporary home for the Dinobots in the original Transformers cartoon. Given his love for the Transformers and having left his own home under less than ideal circumstances, the name appealed to Rocky and pretty much stuck as the name for the journal after its conception.

The look and feel of the site tries to remain in line with the Transformers universe without distracting readers from the true point of the site - the written content. The background image is a combination of both the Autobot and Decepticon symbols.

[edit] Topics

Being a personal blog, the site centers around the daily experiences of its author and his many interests. Common topics include his life as a gay man, his experiences working in the Philippine call center industry, his writing and other items of interests to him like books, movies, computers and certain news items.

[edit] Entry Numbering

Each entry starts with a 5-character code, which represents the equivalent entry number in hexadecimal, with the very first entry starting from zero (00000). From time to time Rocky makes numbering errors and the need to revisit older entries to correct the sequencing has become a regular activity.

[edit] Use of Comics

One of the more distinct parts of this blog is Rocky's use of comic strips throughout his entries to act as breaks or pauses between different topics or different parts of the entry. Common comics cited are Dilbert, Sinfest, Penny Arcade and Order of the Stick.

[edit] Tri-Blog Entries

Given that Rocky now manages a total of three blogs, he sometimes posts special entries he calls Tri-Blog Entries, which are special posts that appear on all three of his blogs - Beyond Dinobot Island, The Geeky Guide to Nearly Everything and Moonbase 8. These are normally reserved for special occasions of personal significance like his birthday or his anniversary.

Tri-Blog entries have also been used to highlight issues or concerns that are highly significant and important to Rocky and of course to promote traffic between these three sites.
